So, to conclude this very small update; Am I a firm believer in everything he says? No. But, I definitely can appreciate another person’s beliefs and perspective, I take great interest in the ability to think outside the norms of our current society. His views on our current monetary system, government and religious institutions gives insight. I hope you all enjoy these clips. Note: Some of them may have continuations, makesure you click on them to continue.

Another solid year, very great year at that. A lot of accomplishments have been met, definitely some struggles here and there. I think the biggest lesson I learned from this year is discipline for long-term goals. As a kid, no one ever teaches you to think ahead, unless it is a very caring parent or guardian that truly cares for your well-being and your success as you grow older. I have some very ambitious plans for my future, but it starts here and now, because no one will give me anything for free.

I have a new goal as well that I have set for myself. The goal is pretty simple, eat less proportions of food. I’ve been very careless in my diet over the past years and it has sown some undesirable effects. So, with that, it is something I will be changing. My father told me about a decade ago, he said to be very wary of what I said about his being overweight, karma has a thing with getting back at them. I’m a firm believer in karma, so I definitely feel it hit me and gave me a dose of my own medicine.

I am looking forward to 2009 and what it has in store for me. This year is the year of change for me and a year of major progress towards my long term goals. Ah yes… I also recently decided not to drink due to an incident that royally fucked me up. Cheers : )

Alright, so delving into other topics, I’ve been hitting up Final Cut Express and Livetype for the first time, learning new stuff. For starters, I’ve learned some neat things about NTCS/Pal, aspect ratios, HD etc. Using final cut express was, at first, a bit difficult because all the tools are right in your face and it’s a bit overwhelming.

Going further, I am still using my very string-budget camcorder, the Canon ZR800. It’s got basic stuff on it such as 16:9 Aspect ratio and it allows me to upload the video content from my miniDV cassettes to my mac. However, the picture quality and sound are less than stellar and the actual video footage isn’t stored on HDD like some of the more “uber” stuff out there that already support HD.

I definitely appreciate more cine-quality type camcorders (stuff that supports 24f and 25p). Basically, there are lots of things that differentiate the picture and sound quality from a cheapie beginner’s camcorder to this, the Canon XH-A1. Sure, spend three-grand on a camcorder, you better get some damn good results.

Here is a bit of what this bad-boy can dish out. And no, you do actually need to have knowledge on camera functions in order to produce very cine-like footage. You can’t simply press the “on” button and shoot and then expect that thing to work. Yeah, that’s right…

Here’s the youtube link if you want to view the high-quality version of this clip (I recommend it)

The past week was mostly involved in setting up events and ensuring it goes as smooth as possible. It gave me quite a lot of insight on one thing I always pondered about… I thought I had it rough living on my own and paying bills, now, working towards helping for the event really put in perspective how much tougher it can get with different types of stress situations piled onto one.

Recently, for whatever reason, cash-flow has been becoming more scarce, like if we were in some crazy drought and money simply does not want to come our way. Now, granted I do have a property that is being paid for every month, that typically doesn’t mean we have very little money available to us. I believe that it was due to recent events and expenditures that truly made us go into belt-tightening mode.

Mostly what goes on in my head as of late has been financial gains and losses as well as other left field thoughts that seem to have permeated my conscience for the past several weeks. The thoughts are less impactful with each passing day, but it struck me as surprising to have been in this state to begin-with.

The most interesting part of the events I was involved with was part of the event ended-up a bit rocky, they ironed themselves very nicely in the end, just a bit interesting when shit hit the fan for the first moments.

The stress levels winded down at the end of the day and I was finally able to become more relaxed for the first time in a week or so. Saturday was a pretty solid day and I was content as I spent the evening with Kristin’s dad and her sisters at the movies. My cousin tagged along, he was with me earlier in the day, too.

I think I am pretty thankful that the event is now over and I can continue with my everyday activities once more.

Psychology is often defined as “The science that deals with mental processes and behavior.”

In the modern day, there are basically two prevailing schools of thought. ‘Geneticists’ and ‘Behaviorists’… the old notion of “nature vs nurture.”

The Geneticists are inclined to think that human behavior is derived from heredity and instinct. Often on the news, reports detail how some study claims to find the ‘genetic predisposition’ ‘to being republican’ or ‘smoking cigarettes’. This supports the world view that we are ‘hardwired’ in some way and that even subtle nuances of behavior, such as an inclination for addiction, is genetic or “instinctual” in some way.

The Behaviorists, on the other hand, see the human being as a product of conditioning, as based on the environmental exposure of that person. Therefore, the actions of a person have a source that is derived from experience or a triggered train of thought, brought on by a learned understanding. The mechanism of action/belief therefore is sourced in learning, not heredity or instinct.

Which is more relevant? Obviously, both views are relevant in certain ways. Our interest in surviving and reproducing is imprinted/genetic in some way, as it is directly associated with fundamental survival. However, the means by which survival is obtained is entirely based on the social conditioning of that person. If a person grows up in a scarcity, poverty stricken environment, with limited access to employment, they will have more of a propensity to engage in illegal activity to survive… more so, then say a middle class person who has basic needs met.

On the other side of the spectrum, if a person with great wealth has grown up in an elitist family and is thus conditioned into thinking that his or her wealth/class serves as a status symbol, they might often exploit those who work for them or perform illegal activities to conform to the identity and social arrogance they think is real.

The bottom line is that it is environmental conditioning that really effects 99% of our actions, and all diligent behavior studies have proven this time and time again.

People become alcoholics not because they have a genetic predisposition, but because of the influence of their parents or friends. If you abuse a child, very often they grow up to abuse other children. When the mass media promotes a certain idea in society, such as “terrorism”, the public is conditioned into believing this is true and a real threat, regardless of reality. The fact is, we are emergent, vulnerable organisms and always undergoing influence, conditioning and change to a certain degree.

That ‘degree’ is largely influenced by the social/ideological identifications which many have been conditioned to think are immutable. This particular state of awareness is where paralysis comes in, for there is nothing in nature to support the conclusion that anything we think about today will not be outdated in the future, for one of the few patterns we can stand behind with a certain degree on confidence (so far) is the reality that all elements of nature are emergent. The ‘identification’ with a set understandings for the sake of ones integrity is a serious distortion in our world, for it is considered a ‘weakness’ when a person is proven wrong. This is, of course, absurd, for to be proven wrong is how most learn and it should not be a feared circumstance.

Fritz Pearls once said that “The human species is the only species that has the ability to interfere with their own growth”. This is an important understanding, for our belief systems, which we think we must keep to support our identities, often stands in the way of new, changing understandings and personal growth.

The most dominant institutions which perpetuate this paralysis seems to be Theistic Religion and The Monetary System. Theistic religion promotes a fix world view, with “faith” based understandings that reject logic and new information. The Monetary System (in all countries) is based on Competition for Labor and thus Labor for Money. Very simply, the “competitive edge” can only be sustained through self-perpetuation, and self-perpetuation/self interest naturally leads to a static institution which prefers not to change, for it threatens the survival of that business, government or the like…

Zeitgeist has added in their sequel to their first film, it’s named “Addendum.” -This film focuses mostly on our economy and how a monetary system (i.e. Capitalism) affects our nation. It definitely does add onto the message in the first film. While I don’t agree with 100% of everything that is claimed on this film and/or the first film, I do tend to agree with many things it mentions. Overall, I believe this film is definitely worth watching as it is very much a sort of educational endeavor peering deep into the issues we are facing in today’s world.

The information below is not my work/writing, I relay it because it is relevant to the Zeitgeist movie I posted about in a previous post. The basic idea behind this post is to educate some people about the “politics” involved in the criticism of Zeitgeist and some of the people that have been put under the microscope. Primarily, the focus in this post will be a well known Jesus myth Author D.M. Murdock a.k.a “Acharya S.“

There have been numerous people who claim to have “debunked” the movie in different aspects, many of whom cite internet, biblical and encyclopedia sources. But, as with everything, we all know you cannot simply debunk anything by reading something that is written with no known “original source” or “transcripts,” as D.M. Murdock explains in her video blog.

Below are two quotes from the author’s blog providing clear and concise information for critics who cite her work as, well, basically being a satanist and directly helping with the movie Zeitgeist.

It should be noted that I am not and have never been adverse to reading Christian material or factual rebuttals to my work or that of anyone else. Over the years, I have continually factored such information into my work. In reality, I was born and raised a Christian, from a family of Christians dating back many hundreds of years. My mother’s family landed in America in 1630, as Puritans, and my mother was the longtime secretary, choir director and soloist of our Protestant Congregationalist church. I was also briefly a born-again Christian – I know the material very well. Who could miss Christian proselytizing? In America, it is available all over the place – in our books, newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, movies – we are inundated with Christianity. But if anyone dares to raise their small voice of objection or alternative perspective, they are beaten down with disparagement and vituperation. (Such vitriol, by the way, continues, as several people have attempted to post vicious and insulting comments here – be advised that such posts will not be passed through, but they do prove my point about religious fanaticism causing hatred and incivility towards other human beings.)

Here, she discusses her indirect involvement with Zeitgeist and the heavy skepticism it receives, while also just providing some counters to the original criticism, have a look.

Because of my work’s influence on Part 1 of ZEITGEIST, a number of the debunking sites have been directed largely at me and my contentions formulated over the past 15 years. While we would expect a debate as to the facts, the vitriolic and bilious nature of these refutations reflects a severe weakness of intelligent argument. Moreover, the detractors – whether theists or atheists and other freethinkers – quite often HAVE NOT ACTUALLY STUDIED MY WORK, and there has not been one “refutation” site to our knowledge that has proceeded from an informed and unbiased perspective, accurately presenting facts based on serious research. Despite pretending to be experts on the subject in general and my work in particular, none of these individuals has given any indication that he or she has read my Companion Guide to ZEITGEIST, Part 1, which already deals with a number of the facts purportedly “debunked” and which sets the tone for further discussion of the claims in ZEITGEIST. Because such individuals are not aware of the facts and evidence in my books, they apparently feel the need to attack me personally, demonstrating a lack of substance and objectivity on their part, despite their pretenses to the contrary.

Some of the people who “blast” these authors and free-thinkers are very common and come from all four corners of the earth, some even go as far as to “retaliate” with their own refuted/debunked video clips. Videos such as the one I’ve just linked

Part 1 of the movie Zeitgeist, nearly 200 sources were cited in the transcript. Many of these sources were cited more than once…

Reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jXPjt_qCxQ

The narrator goes on to reveal various of these “duplicate” citations that the makers of this documentary referenced. Keep in mind, the video clip failed to actually reveal to its audience the page numbers to the far right of which specifically provide the viewers, those who are genuinely willing to refer to them, the actual reference-points for any person to verify for themselves.

Also… the narrator of that video failed once more to properly educate people whom are not familiar with the reference-key described at the very top of the manuscript page.

Interactive Transcript

[S#] = Source – [M] = *More information – [D] = Debate Issues
[S#] links will direct you to the source. Use the Browser’s “Back Button”to return.
[M] and [D] links will open up in a new window. (turn off “pop-up blocker” if enabled)

Reference: http://zeitgeistmovie.com/transcript.htm#S75

So, in using the reference-key they provided, then their list of reference begins to take shape and you begin to understand why there are multiple citations that begin to culminate… It’s because they are explaining in their manuscript references as they progress through-it.

Example: This is the sun. As far back as 10 thousand B.C.E., history is abundant with carvings [M] and writings reflecting people’s respect and adoration for this object [S1].

Reference for S1: [S1] – Singh, Madanjeet: ‘The Sun- Symbol of Power and Life, UNESCO Pub., 1993

Note: There ARE indeed many-many reference with specific citations including page numbers.

Example:

[S7] – Hazelrigg, John.: The Sun Book, Health Research, 1971. Page 43
[S8] – Acharya S.: Suns of God, Adventures Unlimited Press, 2004. Page 86-95
[S9] – Olcott, William Tyler : Suns Lore of All Ages, The Book Tree, 1914. Page 157

Unsure if people require more literature reference to realize that “hey, maybe there is literature I can read via the references provided in this manuscript!” What a novel concept.

The game came out not too long ago this month ( September, 18th ) and the game definitely made a small dent in the MMO monopoly set-forth by World of Warcraft. Apparently since it’s release until just recently, the game boasted roughly five hundred thousand subscribers, not too shabby for a new MMO.

Warhammer Logo

Basically, this MMO is about PvP or in this case “RvR,” which basically has two different factions battling against each other for the common goal of taking over enemy keeps/strong holds for “epic loots” and special rewards. Sounds fun? But, like all MMO’s, thats pretty much where they try and hook you in. For those of you that don’t like PvP, I would probably not recommend this for you. If you’ve done a battlegrounds session, you will recognize that W:AR’s “Scenarios” are just as cumbersome.

Do you remember the rank system in WoW? Well, think of this game as improving on that system… I like to call it WoW PvP Rank 2.0. The basic principle is that you attend these “Scenarios” and you gain what’s called “Renown Rank.” What the hell is that? Well, on top of your current “Rank” or level as we call it in WoW, you also have to build up what’s called “Renown” which is essentially your meal ticket to get your gears at the next keep. Yeah… didn’t think you would escape the grind did you when you left WoW, did you?

Here is a little explanation from the guys at Mythic on their RvR system.

I hope that this MMO does well, WoW definitely needs to have competition to improve on existing content.

Recently, I’ve been heavily in the mood for watching all sorts of documentaries. Of course, I don’t take what they all say for truth and take each individual documentary as a different perspective on the topic discussed. Some of the things they say I take with a grain of salt, others I take them as a completely new learning session (of which can be positive, negative… or even both) in how things are perceived. Regardless, there was one documentary that struck me as incredibly fascinating and engaging. It is called “Zeitgeist,” it was produced by Peter Joseph and the basis of this documentary discusses several things such as religion, government and our economy and how they are all intertwined with one another.

The exact topics this film covers:

Jesus myth hypothesis

The attacks on 9/11

The Federal Reserve Bank

The documentary is not meant to take on a scare-tactic approach, but does cover some interesting topics in a very interesting fashion. I don’t recommend this documentary for the heavily religious or political person because it definitely does cover several controversial topics (unless you can stomach them, then it’s alright). The movie is free for download, and they also have a web site you can check out if you wish to see the documentary yourself. Check’em out at http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/

To be frank, it isn’t my thing to believe everything I see or hear, it’s just refreshing to see and hear other beliefs and opinions about world events and how they intertwine with one another. The documentary itself has received a bit of criticism (which is expected) since it goes against what pretty much most educated human beings believe-in. Here is what some people had to say:

“I don’t believe anything the movie says simply on the basis that the so called sources for the documentary were listed so vague with no page numbers was enough to think it as nothing more than a bad dream…” -Anonymous poster on the Last Angry Critic

Anyway, so what’s the moral of the story here? Basically, the documentary is meant to shine a new perspective on things than from what we’ve been told. A fresh look at these things brings some healthy insight. I really enjoyed viewing this “conspiracy” documentary.
